Five Plus Two
Do you ever feel like you don't have enough? Enough money, enough talent, enough 'good looks', enough charisma... You might begin telling yourself:
"I'm not suited for ___"
running a business.
writing a book.
earning lots of money.
STOP! You are already so blessed... Let me tell you a story (you know I love to!)...
Recently, I attended a women's conference in Dallas called SHINE. This particular conference was hosted by our home church, Shoreline Dallas. We had a boutique shop to purchase clothing, jewelry, bookstore, a DJ, mini MAC cosmetic makeovers, and headline speakers such as Laura Koke, Oneka McClellan and Priscilla Shirer!
As Priscilla took to the stage, the crowd of 1000+ women roared with applause and shouts of excitement. Shirer is a well known author and speaker but most recently she's known for her starring role in the box office hit, "War Room". If you've ever heard Priscilla speak you know that her delivery transports you immediately into the spiritual realm!
She begins her message by directing our attention to the book of Luke, chapter 9, a passage from The Bible. (Don't be scared, stick with me here!). Quickly we discover it's the story about Jesus feeding the 5,000. I've been going to church my entire life; even spent two years in college studying scripture. Yet, I'd never heard the story the way that she shared that evening.
Don't worry, I won't even attempt to duplicate her eloquent and anointed delivery but I will offer you what I learned. And that is this short, yet sweet, lesson:
Our tendency, much like the twelve disciples of Jesus, is to doubt, to resist, to hold onto uncertainty so tight that we can't see the possibility! Life can get hard, running a business can feel like you're actually running circles. But don't give up - resist the urge to push away the hard times because more often than not, there's a beautiful gift in store for you.
In the story of the feeding of the multitude, Jesus took five loaves of bread and two fish and fed 5,000 men. That. Is. In. Sane.
How many times has someone told you you're crazy for following your dreams, starting a business, going to the cabin to write a book or having another kid? Just like the disciples, we tend to doubt. We begin to think that things are impossible. The reality is that there is always an opportunity to turn what seemed like nothing into a treasure to be shared among thousands.
You have been given gifts, talents, passion, and knowledge - nestled within you - to 'feed' thousands.
Stop treasuring doubt, fear, insecurity or unconfidence.
Do you realize you already have all that you need?
Your treasure is within!
